Cornr is a neighbourhood app for iPhone. It puts you in touch with the people who live within about a ten minute walk of your door, and it is built in Canada by one person.
Most people can name two neighbours and recognise thirty. Cornr exists to close that gap. You turn your light on when you want company, you see who else nearby is around, and you talk to them. Everything clears itself within a day, so there is no feed to scroll and no history to live down.
It is deliberately small. A cornr covers about a ten minute walk, so the people in it are the people you could actually go and meet. That constraint is the product.
Cornr does not sell attention. The only business presence is one local shop hosting your cornr for a week, and you can see exactly who it is.
Your phone works out which cornr you are in and sends that. We never receive your coordinates and there is no address stored to leak.
Talk clears a day after the last reply, and a notice comes down after seven. You can delete your account from inside the app in two taps.
Every post, message, review and profile can be reported, and we act on reports of harmful content within 24 hours.
One person, in the evenings, in Vancouver. Cornr is designed, written, tested and moderated by the same hands. There is no growth team and no investor asking for engagement numbers, which is the reason it can afford to be an app that throws its own content away.
The company behind it is North Axis Holdings Inc., a British Columbia company. It builds software for the places people actually live.
Cornr is paid for out of one person's pocket. Apple charges to publish, the servers cost money every month, and every new country means more of both. Refusing advertising means refusing the income that comes with it, so contributions are what is left.
If you would like to see a Canadian app that sends people to the shop on the corner rather than to a warehouse, you can pay for a piece of it. Money goes to North Axis Holdings Inc. and is spent on the App Store fee, the servers, and opening the next country.
No account needed. One off, from $5. There is no membership, no perk and no tier: it is a contribution, not a purchase.
